One With Nature

We made it to Saint Augustine a couple of days ago and set up camp in our spot within Anastasia State Park. We stayed here and toured the town a couple years ago, and enjoyed it so much that we knew we would have to come back. But I’m getting ahead of myself, as I haven’t posted any updates on our last stop in Pine Island…

Fran, the Pilot

Our Spot in Pine Island KOA

We spent about a week at the Pine Island KOA, visiting family, hanging out at the dog beach, and doing some fishing. The weather was mostly cooperative, and we had a great time. Unfortunately, we didn’t quite get to do all the things we wanted, due to lack of time and poor planning on my part. There is always next year…

New Year’s eve, we took the 4-pack to the dog beach, located near Lover’s Key, just south of Ft Myers beach. It was pretty empty when we arrived, and the sun was close to setting. The dogs had a blast running around and acting like goofballs, off-leash on the large stretch of beach. They made a couple of new friends and enjoyed exploring the area. After about an hour of fun, we watched the sun sink over the water and then hit the road, headed back home.

We spent New Year’s eve with Fran’s mom and stepdad at their house, which is conveniently 10 minutes from where we stayed. It was good to catch up, swap stories, and talk about the next leg of our trip. Fran and I were pretty exhausted, so we headed home a bit before the clock struck 12am. Happy New Year!

The Parents

The Parents

The following day, my parents took us on a tour of Sanibel Island, which we hadn’t visited last time we were in town. I didn’t get any pics, but did get plenty of video, which unfortunately I can’t upload at this time…sad face. But trust me, it’s a beautiful island and worth a visit if you are in the area.

Over the course of the next few days, we were able to visit with both sets of parents, dine on some delicious homemade and restaurant food, and enjoy each others company. We also got a chance to catch up with Fran’s aunt, uncle, and grandmom, which was great.

After spending the week at the KOA, it is good to get back to the basics. Our spot in Anastasia is fantastic, lots of cover for shade and privacy, and the sound of the Atlantic ocean lulling us to sleep at night. Ya just can’t beat it. We are having a bit of bad luck with the weather, but are making the most of it!

Stay tuned…
